For Clinicians

Partnering with physicians to support patient care through research opportunities.

SMH Cardiology Clinical Trials Inc. works closely with community physicians, cardiologists, internists, and nurse practitioners to provide research opportunities for patients who may benefit from additional monitoring, novel therapies, or alternative treatment options. We aim to make the referral process simple, efficient, and supportive for both you and your patients.

Why Refer a Patient?

The Value of a Clinical Research Referral

Access to Investigational Therapies

Patients may qualify for medications not yet available in standard practice, including therapies targeting heart failure, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, lipoprotein(a), cardiometabolic risk, and inflammation-driven cardiovascular conditions.

Enhanced Monitoring and Follow-Up

Participants receive regular assessments, ECGs, lab work, and close oversight from cardiologists and certified research staff.

No Cost to Patients

All study-related visits, tests, and medications are provided at no cost. Parking reimbursement may be available for eligible participants.

Collaborative Care

We keep referring clinicians informed and involved. Our goal is to complement — not replace — your ongoing care.

How to Refer a Patient

Simple, flexible referral options

Referrals can be made by:

  • Phone
  • Fax
  • Email
  • Providing the patient with our contact information

We are happy to review medical history, recent labs, and imaging to determine eligibility for current studies.

What We Need for Screening

To streamline the process, please include (if available):

  • Recent clinic notes
  • Medication list
  • Echocardiogram reports
  • Relevant lab results (NT-proBNP, lipid panel, HbA1c, etc.)
  • Hospital discharge summaries (if applicable)

If this information is not available, we can obtain it during the screening process.
